HOPSON

RUSSEL HOPSON enlisted 16 Sept 1847 for the Mexican War at Tazewell, Claiborne County, Tennessee. He was a Private in Co I, Capt. Burch and Evans. 4th Regiment, Col. Richard Waterhouse, Tennessee Foot Volunteers. Russell Hopson was recorded as sick in the hospital at Vera Cruz, 2 Dec 1847. He was discharged at Vera Cruz on 2 March 1848. He last appears on the 1850 Poll Tax list in Dist 8, Claiborne County.  Russell was probably the son of JAMES and PENELOPE HOPSON of Clairborne County, Tennessee.

SWANK

WESTFALL

EDWARD DIXON WESTFALL, U.S. Army, Private, Captain John Conner's Company, Col. Ph.H. Bell's Regiment; enlisted in San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas in August 1846 and was discharged in San Antonio at the war's end. He was the son of ABRAHAM WESTFALL and SARAH RUMSOUR of Jasper County, Illinois, and the grandson of Isaac Westfall who came to Knox County, Indiana from Randolph County, Virginia in 1797. He was born December 22, 1820 in Indiana and died on June 12, 1897 on his farm near Elmendorf, Texas at the age of seventy-six. He distinquished himself as a pioneer Texan and Indian fighter, along with his friend, William A.A. "Big Foot" Wallace and served as a Texas Ranger as Wallace's lieutenant.

LINVILLE FRANKLIN WESTFALL, (Mexican War) born September 29, 1824 in Washington County, Indiana, and died October 26, 1858 in Salem, Vernon Township, Washington County, Indiana; son of HENRY WESTFALL and ANN RILEY of Bullit County, Kentucky; served in the Mexican War, widow's pension request WC-4117 filed 8/17/1887 from Indian by his wife CYNTHIA (JONES) WESTFALL.
