Pvt. VIVIAN FRANCIS SHANAFELT, (Vietnam War) U.S. Army, son of Herman Francis Shanafelt (1914-1998) and Grace Winifred Wall (1918- ) born in November 1942, in Wadsworth, Ohio.

Chief Petty Officer ARTHUR ARLIE WALL, (Cold War, Vietnam Era), U.S. Navy/U.S. Naval Reserve, , Rota Spain, Reykjavik, Iceland, son of Vivian Arlie Wall and Clara Luvenia Corbett, born in Wadsworth, Ohio in 1943.

Master Sergeant, RONALD NEVIN WALL, (Cold War, Vietnam War), U.S.A.F., Security Service/Electronic Security Command (1961-1981) - 6986 RGM, Wakkani AS Japan; Det. 7, 6922 Korat RTAFB Thailand; 6917 Security Squadron, San Vito AB Italy; 6931 Security Squadron, Heraklion AB Greece; HQ USAFSS, Kelly AFB, San Antonio, Texas; Det 1, Special Communications Squadron, Brooks AFB San Antonio; 6970 & 6944 Security Squadron, NSA, Ft. Meade, MD; son of Vivian Arlie Wall (1921-1946) and Clara Luvenia Corbett (1921-1990), born in Wadsworth, Ohio in 1942.

WHITE

Staff Sergeant, LOY MICHAEL "MIKE" WHITE, (Cold War, Vietnam Era), U.S.A.F., 460 Fighter Intercept Squadron (F-106 Delta Dart), Air Defense Command, Grand Forks AFB, North Dakota and Tyndall AFB, Panama City Florida; son of William White and Clara Luvenia Corbett, was born in Van Buren, Arkansas in 1954, married Diane L. Newman of Erie County, New York.

WHITSETT

Captain, BERNARD WALKER “BERNIE” WHITSETT, (Vietnam War), U.S. Army, son of Fred Whitsett (1895-1973) and Dorthula Thacker (1904-2005) of Brown Summit, Guilford County, North Carolina.  He was a direct descendant of Alfred and Rebecca Whitsett, former slaves of James and Alfred Whitsett of Rockingham County, NC.   He was born 12 December 1940 in Brown Summit.  Bernard W. Whitsett was a commissioned officer with the 82nd Airborne Division and served two tours in Vietnam.  He retired from the military after twenty years and spent another twenty years in Civil Service.  He was a member of The Buffalo Soldiers, an organization dedicated to the memory of African-American veterans, and the Dark Horse Motor Cycle Club.  Bernard died on 23 August 2006 at the Sacred Journey Hospice, McDonough, Georgia.  He left a wife, Eudora Holland, three sons and three daughters and three grandchildren.

GEOFFREY A. WHITSITT (Afghanistan War), U.S. Army, Private First Class, Army Airborne, 118th Military Police Company, 503rd Military Police Battalion, 16th Military Police Brigade, age 21 of Taylors, South Carolina was one of two Army soldiers who were killed on January 13, 2010 at Combat Outpost McClain, Afghanistan from the explosion of a Taliban planted IED (Improvised Explosive Device) near their vehicle. His awards include the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal- Campaign Star, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, NATO Medal, Parachutist Badge, and the Combat Action Badge.  His funeral was held at the North Hills Community Church in Taylors with burial at the Woodlawn Memorial Park.  Private Whitsitt leaves behind an older brother Steve who serves in the Navy and parents Debbie and Steve Whitsitt.  Sources:  The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, AZ, Jan. 30, 2010, "U.S. MILITARY DEATHS."; Patriot Guard Riders forum; WLTX.com, Columbia, S.
