The three generations immediately below is new information I obtained after generating my Trowbridge family tree below. Much of the information on the American family are from THE TROWBRIDGE GENEALOGY genealogy compiled and published by Francis Bacon Trowbridge in 1908. Mr. Trowbridge covered many branches of the family resulting in a book five or six inches thick. For our web site I have only extracted our direct line.

Trowbridge, Francis Bacon, THE TROWBRIDGE GENEALOGY, (1908), pg. 39; "Thomas Trowbridge, the first of his family to come to America, was the son, as heretofore shown, of John Trowbridge, a wealthy merchant and prominent citizen of Taunton, Somersetshire. His father had long been identified with the woolen trade in Taunton, which was noted for its manufacture of that staple, and it was natural that the son when he grew up should turn his attention to some branch of that industry, and he is found in early manhood established in business as a mercer in the neighboring city of Exeter in Devonshire."

Morton's A HISTORY OF PRESTON COUNTY, WEST VIRGINIA suggests that he went to Missouri about 1820 along with brother Jonathan.

8. DAVID TROWBRIDGE (SAMUEL7, DAVID6, JOSEPH5, WILLIAM4, THOMAS3, JOHN2, THOMAS1, JOHNb, THOMASa) was born 1772 in Frederick Co., Virginia, and died April 7, 1864 in Kingwood, West Virginia. He married MARY GRADY in 1797 in Frederick Co., Virginia. She was born 1774 in Dunkards Bottom, (West) Virginia, and died May 22, 1849 in Kingwood.

9. SAMUEL GRADY TROWBRIDGE (DAVID8, SAMUEL7, DAVID6, JOSEPH5, WILLIAM4, THOMAS3, JOHN2, THOMAS1, JOHNb, THOMASa) was born July 2, 1801 in Frederick Co., Virginia, and died April 16, 1887 in Kahoka, Clark Co., Missouri. He married JANE MCGREW February 17, 1825 in Brandonville, Virginia, daughter of JAMES MCGREW and ISABELLA CLARK, and the sister of JAMES CLARK MCGREW of Kingwood (one time mayor and U. S. Congressman one of the leaders who helped to separate West Virginia from Virginia at the start of the Civil War). Jane McGrew was born April 2, 1805, and died October 30, 1883 in Cecil, Pennsylvania.
Samuel Grady Trowbridge was a Minister in the Methodist Episcopal church. After the close of the Civil War Samuel sold his property in West Virginia and removed to Kahoka, Clark County, Missouri where he continued his ministry until his death there.

He married SARAH ANN SNIDER November 18, 1850 in Fayette Co., Pa., daughter of SAMUEL SNYDER and ELIZABETH ALBRIGHT. She was born July 26, 1834 in Green Glades, Preston Co., Virginia, and died January 4, 1918 in Kingwood, Preston Co., West Virginia.

She married NATHANIEL JONATHAN WESTFALL June 20, 1880 in Lewis Co., West Virginia, son of JOHN H. WESTFALL and LYDIA WILSON. He was born December 25, 1851 in West Virginia, and died September 29, 1915 in Akron, Summit Co., Ohio (Nathaniel is buried in the Harrison Groove Cemetery, Lewis County, West Virginia

He married (1) ESTELLA TUCKER. He married (2) ZONIE FARNSWORTH HOLYFIELD August 30, 1892 in Clarksburg, West Virginia. She was born September 29, 1858 and died during child birth on May 4, 1899. He married (3) ISABELLE EVELINE BONAR probably about 1905 in Preston County, West Virginia. Isabelle was born in West Virginia in July 1865 and died on 16 June 1930 in Preston County, West Virginia. Joseph married (4) STELLA ANTHONY, ca.1930 in Florida), no children.
