1750 Survey of William Whiteside [Whitsett] Cumberland County, Pennsylvania; Bureau and History, Pennsylvania State Archives, RG-17, Records of The Land Office, COPIED SURVEYS 1691-1912

Book A-14, page 4

The reverse of the survey pictured on the left. A land warrant for William was issued 24 April 1750. The land was sold or abandoned and resurveyed in 1803.

Land warrants were issued to the original settler, usually on credit. When that land was sold or abandonded the land was registered and the new owner was issued a deed after paying any money still owed to the state, if any. This document shows that the original land was initially transferred to George Guyer on 27 June 1804.

Pennsylvania State Archives; RG-17, WARRANT REGISTERS, pg. 190

William Whiteside's original land was resurveyed in 1803 and broken up into smaller plots. "Perch" is a surveyors measurement equal to sixteen and half feet. "In right of William Whiteside" indicates that William had transferred his original plot of land to Jacob Kenower sometime before 29 December 1803 at which time the original plot was broken up into three separate plots and resurveyed.
