Jason and Dan, Smithsonian Air and Space Museum, Virginia -The F-105D were the fighter-bombers
that flew out of Royal Thai Air Force (RTAFB) bases at Takhli (355th TFW) and Korat (388th TFW)
in Thailand when I was stationed there during the Vietnam War

The F-105D Thunderchief served with the Air Forced from 1958 to 1984. It was designed as a strike aircraft carrying
one nudclear bomb. Used during the Vietnam war it was converted to carry over 12,000 pounds of conventional ordinance.
It was fast, could fly at Mach 2 (over 1200 MPH), but was not a nimble fighter and no match for NVAF Mig-21's.
