A Brief History of Wadsworth

1874 property owner map of Wadsworth showing Wall relatives including our ancestor Benjamin Tyler (Tract IX, upper left), John Wall, brother of our
direct ancestor Charles Wall and son of Christian Wall, several distantly related Baughman families, and where I believe Christian Wall's ten acre plot
in Wadsworth was located in Tract 1 (lower right) based on the description in the April 30, 1840 deed when he purchased the land from
Henry P. Oberholster. In 1874 downtown Wadsworth is the brown tinted area in the center of the map.

Wadsworth township property owners map - great-great grandfather Joseph Tyler's farm in upper left. Today, route 57 (Wadsworth Rd.) runs through
the north eastern section of the property and Interstate 76 would border the property on the south. The small section labeled "Laura" was probably Rush
and Laura (Stannard) Tyler land. Why it lists Laura rather than Rush is a mystery. These properties were formerly the farm of Benjamin Tyler (1796-1875),
Joseph Tyler's father. At bottom center is the former John Wall property labeled as "Jno. Wall heirs". The property of his son, Daniel B. Wall, a Wadsworth
pharmacist, borders the property on the east and south of his father John's property. Today's Wall Road (named for John Wall) borders the north side of
the properties and Eastern Road borders the south side of Daniel's properties. Highway 94 north to Cleveland splits the Wall property. In the lower right
in Wayne County is the location of the "High" Waltz German Reformed (today's Emanuel Church of Christ) and its historic cemetery where our ancestor
Christian Wall, his wives Catherine and Magdelena Baughman, and his daughter Mary Hartman are buried.

This 1897 map shows the location of the Normal School (a school dedicated to training female teachers) on lot 137 my grandmother Winifred P. Tyler
attended in her youth. The "WALL'S ADD." (Wall Addition) was the John Wall property shown on the 1874 map above. John Wall died in 1892 and was
the brother of our ancestor, my great-great grandfather Charles Wall.
