Joseph Whitsitt's surname in related documents is listed as Whitesides, Whitsides, Whitsett and Whitsitt typical of Whitsett and Whitsitt families of the pioneer period. Joseph married Rebecca Stewart in Kentucky and they had several children. Apparently, Rebecca was unfaithful to Joseph and bore two sons, both given the Whitsitt surname, by a man we cannot identify. This fact is substantiated by yDNA testing. Joseph and Rebecca were divorced and he left Kentucky for Indiana where he married a widow, Mrs. Mary Lemasters. Many of Joseph's descendants migrated to western Missouri. |
