Westfall 1891 Ulster County, New York Genealogical Society Chart |
This chart was given to
me by Ms. Delores Jeanne Russell of Lebanon, Pennsylvania in March
2006. Jeanne was a descendant of Christina Westfall and
Abraham Kittle (ref. # 16.ii.) She said this of the
chart:
"March 7, 2006
Ron, I hope you can read this chart [it was handwritten].
It was sent to me long ago by Florence Phrem(?) from the Ulster
Co., NY gen. Soc. That group is so nice ... I have at least 4
lines to Jurian Westfall, from my mother and one from father."
A date on the chart says
May-June 1891. Some of the information was apparently from
HISTORY OF SUSSEX & WARREN CO., N. J.; Snell, 1881. At the
time the chart was compiled the book was in the Newburg Free Library.
All specific birth dates prefixed with "Bef." indicate
the date of the baptism in the Dutch Reformed Church. Most were
recorded in the Kingston church book of baptisms but the actual
event may have occurred elsewhere. The reference "Kingston
#...." probably refers to the entry number in the church
record. The Dutch church as with its sister the Lutheran
church of that era required sponsors for the baby being baptized.
Usually these were aunts, uncles or close friends. Often,
the woman's maiden name was used when she and her husband sponsored
a baby. This information is incredibly valuable but often
overlooked by researchers.
It
is our sad duty to report to you that Ms. Russell passed away
on January 31, 2010. She was 79 years old. I will
miss her notes and letters.
