Church Affiliation: Dutch Reformed
Wm. Westfall and Margaret Hicks had six children. In writing of his
children, William said 'If there was a child in this world I thought
most of it is Alfred. He is my pet boy.'
REMARKS: About the year 1800 members of the German Reformed Church of
Pi nk's Corners (town of Rhinebeck), four miles south of the village
of Red Hook, built a new church at Red Hook. Before long the new congregation
at Red Hook absorbed the remnants of the older one at Pink's Corners
and the latter passed out of existence as a separate unit. Some years
later the German Reformed Church at Red Hook became affiliated with
this Lutheran congregation and as a Lutheran Church the two have continued
in one corporate existence. Poucher & Reynolds.

Cause of death: cerebral hemmorage caused by hypertension.
Forrest was entitled to burial here because of his service in WW I.
Discharge papers describe him, when enlisted, as: 67 inches
high, blue eyes, auburn hair, ruddy complexion; occupation,
student; citizenship, U. S.; character, excellent. He was discharged
at the Navy Yard, New York and paid mileage to Greensburg, IN.
The following year, he was awarded an Expert Rifleman's badge
and a Good Conduct Medal. Address was 507 N . Broadway, Greensburg,
IN. After basic training, he was stationed aboard the U.S.S.
Arkansas which operated with the Sixth Battle Squadron in European
waters. On 9 Oct . 1918, he was appointed Corporal. After the
armistice, he sailed with the Arkansas to the Caribbean and
finally back to the United States where he was discharged on
15 Sep. 1919.
While working
his way through college, Forrest Turner took a job at the YMCA
in Bartlesville, Oklahoma where he met his wife, Mary Westfall
. Mary Westfall told the story that when they were courting
, they walked to a grove of trees to gather mistletoe. (This
was around Christmas time). Forrest was an athlete and taught
physical education at the YMCA, so he was handy to have around
when you needed someone to climb a tree to cut down mistletoe.
No doubt this is why Mary married him. After their marriage,
Forrest Turner worked at YMCA's in Alton, Aurora, and Naperville,
Illinois. When the United States entered World War II, Forrest
went to work for the United Service Organization (USO) in Tomah,
Wisconsin. The Army had opened Camp McCoy near there to train
soldiers for combat in the European Theater of Operations. the
camp was full of soldiers for months. Mary and her son would
visit Tomah from time to time from Their home in Naperville.
The boy remembers hearing the sound of gunfire coming from the
practice ranges. Camp McCoy was also used to train soldiers
for winter combat conditions in Europe. Then, one day, the camp
was emptied and all the soldiers were shipped east to be embarked
for England. Their next stop was Normandy. In the spring of
1944, Forrest took a position in the YMCA in Milwaukee , Wisconsin.
The family lived there until 1948, when they moved to Key West,
Florida. Forrest took over the management of the USO/YMCA in
Key West until his death in 1952.
