This is the Emanuel Church of
Christ on the County Line Road just south of Wadsworth. The cemetery
containing the graves of Christian Wahl and other members of his family
are just across the road from the church. The original Lutheran church
was a log building built by the Waltz family and known as the Waltz Church
or the High Church. Many members of the early German pioneer families
are buried here.
The badly eroded limestone headstone
for Christian Wall in the High Church cemetery. The name and the date
1853 (the year Christian died) are still visible in the photograph.
Many of the older stones were limestone which does not hold up to the elements
very well.
Another photo of Christian's
headstone. These photos were taken by my Uncle Ira and Aunt Florence Wall
who was unfamiliar with techniques to make old headstones more readable;
but, without their help we would not know about this cemetery or those
buried there.
Next to Christian is his first
wife Anna Catherine (Bachman/Baughman) Wall. The stone is a badly
eroded. Using some photo enhancement tricks I was able to read her
maiden name "BACHMAN" her age "51"
and her year of death "1837".
The lettering on the stone is distinctly German.
MAGDALENA
WIFE OF
CHRISTIAN WALL
(the rest of the inscription is unreadable, but appears to have her date
of birth, (year 1787) and her age at death. Christian's second wife
was Magdalena Feller, the widow of Jacob Feller. She was also the
sister of Christian's first wife Catherine Bachman.

PAUL WALL
Kitty was born about 1831 and died in 1854. She died giving birth to
her daughter Alice. Paul was the grandson of Christian and Catherine
Wall and the son of John Wall and Mary Baughman.
