SHARON CENTER CEMETERY

Many early settlers of Sharon Township are buried in this cemetery on Rt. 94 just south of Sharon Center and just north of the railroad bridge about five miles north of Wadsworth.

The Wall cemetery plot just to the right as you come in the north entrance.

Sophia Frederick married Charles Wall on December 17, 1829 in Baughman Township, Wayne County, Ohio. She was the daughter of Thomas Frederick (1778-1871) and Elizabeth Shank (1785-?), born in Ohio about 1808 and died in Sharon on August 23, 1886. Their headstones and those of three children are located in the Wall plot.

Charles Wall was the son of Christian Wall and Anna Catherine Baughman and was born in (East) Penn Township, Northampton (now Carbon) County, Pennsylvania. He died in Sharon on January 10, 1893. Charles and Sophia had ten children, all except the oldest (Jonas) born in Sharon Township.

Charles II was born in September and died a month later in Sharon.

William was born on September 30, 1845 in Sharon and died there on January 26, 1849 at the age of three.

Little Margaret was born in March, 1849 and died in the Sharon measle epidemic in February 1850. Five children in Sharon between the ages of six months and 10 years died of measles in February that year. We now have an effective vaccine to prevent that tragedy from reoccurring.

Reason Deforest and Winifred Pearl (Tyler) Wall were my grandparents. Their graves are located next to the Wall obelisk just inside the north cemetery entrance.

Winifred Pearl Tyler was born in Wadsworth on June 21, 1876 to Rush S. Tyler and Laura T. Stannard. She attended Normal School (a school to train women teachers) for four years in Wadsworth. She married Reason D. Wall on Christmas day, 1895 in Wadsworth. Ironically, she never taught school but instead raised eleven children. She died on the farm just east of Sharon Center on June 4, 1958 from a long and debilitating spinal illness that paralyzed her for almost a decade until her death.

Grandfather was born on November 25, 1875 on the family farm in Sharon. He died in Wadsworth on April 14, 1965. After he and grandmother were married he taught school for a few years in Liverpool, Granger and Sharon Center before devoting himself entirely to farming.

Joshua Hartman married Judith (Julia) Wall, daughter of Christian Wall and Catherine Baughman, about 1833 probably in Sharon Township. The location of her grave is unknown. She was born in December, 1814 in Pennsylvania and died in Sharon on May 1, 1835. They had one son, Eli Hartman, born in 1834. After Julia's death Joshua married second Catherine Meyer in 1837 and had seven children, one of whom died as a child; he married a third time to Mary Blyler in 1851 and had eight more children.

Jushua's grave is in the row just west of Charles and Sophia. In this picture, taken in 2019, are my cousins Mr. and Mrs. Vivian and Ruth Shanafelt and my daughter Tonya.

Several Sharon Center pioneers are buried in this cemetery. Jacob and Mary Kuder, parents of my great grandmother Abby Kuder, son John P. and daughter Sussana Kuder Arnold are buried here as well.

Jacob and Mary Kime Kuder stone. Jacob Kuder was born in Pennsylvania, probably Northampton County, on April 22, 1796 and died on June 2, 1876 in Sharon Township. He was the son of George and Susanna Kuder.

Mary M. Kime was born in Columbia County, Pennsylvania on March 5, 1804. She died on July 4, 1887 in Sharon Township. She married Jacob Kuder in Columbia County about 1825.

John P. Kuder (small grey stone), son of Jacob and Mary, was born on November 17, 1825 in Columbia County, Pennsylvania and died August 22, 1908 in Sharon (no descendants we know of); Susannah Kuder, born December 29, 1849 in Sharon and died February 16, 1868 in Sharon. She married Joseph Arnold in Sharon on July 3, 1866.

COPLEY CEMETERY, COPLEY, SUMMIT COUNTY

Copley Cemetery is located east of the Medina County Line Road and Highway 21.

Wall family graves. My great grandparents Reason and Abigail Kuder Wall, two of their sons and daughter-in-laws are buried here. Also buried here is my great grandmother Luvenia Margaret (Trowbridge) Westfall and son Albert. No photo of Luvenia's grave seems to exist.

Reason Wall was the son of Charles and Sophia Frederick Wall. He was born on May 19, 1840 in Sharon Township and died on the family farm in Sharon on March 29, 1911. He married Abigail Kuder, daughter of Jacob Kuder and Mary M. Kime on December 12, 1861 in Wadsworth. Abby was born January 4, 1844 in Sharon and died on April 7, 1910 on the Wall family farm. They had five children, Charles Jacob, William Lorenzo, Albert Allen, Mary Sophia, and Reason DeForest (my grandfather).

Charles Jacob Wall was born on February 9, 1863 in Medina County and died on October 31, 1944 in Sharon. He was married twice, first to Flora A. Houglan, died May 12, 1913, and after her death to Belle Daniels. Charles had no children.

William Lorenzo Wall was born January 31, 1865 in Montville Township and died January 18, 1957 in Copley. He married Ida C. Hazen (4 Aug. 1863-16 June 1917) probably about 1890. William and Ida had two daughters, Martha and Luella.

Mary Sophia Wall, daughter of Reason and Abby Wall, married Charles A. Stauffer c.1891. She was born in Sharon on May 20, 1971 and died in Wadsworth on November 2, 1953. Charles Stauffer was born February 13, 1871 in Baughman Township, Wayne County. Charles and Mary had three children, Elno R. (1893-1978), Florence S. (1894-1993), and Roy O. (c.1897-1991).

Albert A. Westfall was the son of Luvenia Margaret Trowbridge and Nathaniel Jonathan Westfall. He was born in Lewis County, West Virginia on March 20, 1882 and died September 12, 1942 in Akron. He married Ida Belle Paugh on August 2, 1901 in Lewis County, West Virginia. She was born in 1884 in West Virginia and died April 21, 1966 in Largo, Florida. They had nine children. The photo is from Find A Grave.

My maternal great grandmother Luvenia Margaret Trowbridge is buried in the Copley Cemetery, but her headstone has not been found. She was the daughter of James McGrew Trowbridge and Sarah Ann Snyder. She married Nathaniel J. Westfall on June 20, 1880 in Lewis County, West Virginia and the couple came to Summit County, Ohio in 1912 where Nathaniel died in 1915. Luvenia was born on November 3, 1863 in Preston County, West Virginia and died in Copley on November 8, 1940. She and Nathaniel had seven children.

Loy W. Westfall, son of Nathaniel and Luvenia, was born in Lewis County, West Virgina and died in Akron. He is buried in the Greensburg Cemetery, Greensburg, Summit County, Ohio. He married Mildren Ellen Morgan. They had a son George.

Uncle Theodore Roosevelt Westfall, son of Nathaniel and Luvenia, was born in Lewis County, West Virginia and died in Dallas, Polk County, Oregon. He is buried in the Willamette National Cemetery, Portland, Oregon. He was married twice, first to Lillie M. Hoddinott in 1927 in Medina, Ohio, divorced and married while in the Army Beatrice Alice Haywood. Uncle Ted and Lillie had three children, Anita Mae, Vern, and Sheldon.
