Wiggam and Carmel Cemeteries near Deputy, Jefferson County, Indiana

William Whitsitt Sen. Born May 6, 1767 in Pennsylvania, probably Westmoreland County, the son of Samuel and Margaret (Tuttle/Tittle?) Whitsett. He came to Indiana from Montgomery County, Kentucky shortly after the War of 1812 when he served in Sutton's Ohio Militia. William died on May 9, 1854 in Jefferson County. Brothers James and Joseph also settled in Jefferson County. Several members of this family later moved to Lafayette County, Missouri.

Rebecca (Malcomb) Whitsitt was William's fourth wife after Margaret A. McGee, Martha Woodward, and Nancy Greene, married in 1832. They had no children.

Allen H. Whitsitt was the son of William and his third wife Nancy Greene. He was born in Jefferson County on January 12, 1827 and died there on October 26, 1892. He married Mary Jane Harrod (1828-1858) by whom he had three daughters, Mary, Tina, and Lowry.

Wiggam Cemetery, Deputy, Indiana

Daniel Greene Whitsitt was the son of William and Nancy Greene. He was born December 28, 1824 in Jefferson County and died in Deputy on July 10, 1910.

Martha Ann (Wilson) wife of Daniel Greene Whitsitt born June 25, 1830, Indiana, died December 5, 1901, Jefferson County. They were married in Jefferson County on September 7, 1848.

Bethany Church, Jefferson County, Indiana

Chesley Woodward Whitsitt, son of William Whitsitt and his second wife Martha Woodward, was born February 22, 1822 in Jefferson County, died April 12, 1902 in Scott County, Indiana. He married Mary Mariah Evans in 1842, born February 23, 1822 in Kentucky and Died June 30, 1902 in Scott County.

Henry Clay Whitsitt, son of Chesley Woodward Whitsitt and Mary Mariah Evans married Minnervia C. Landon.

Thomas Jefferson Whitsitt, son of Chesley and Mary, was born on January 26, 1849 probably in Jefferson County and died March 24, 1885 in Jennings Township, Scott County, Indiana.
He married Hannah Margaret "Mattie" Morrison in 1870 in Scott County. She was born in July 1848 in Ohio or Indiana and died in 1934 in Indiana. After the death of Thomas she married William M. Robbins. This headstone was placed on their graves in 1934.

Archer Cemetery, Princeton, Gibson County

Grave of Samuel Whitsitt, son of Joseph Whitsitt (brother of William of Jefferson Co.), and his wife Jane Finney, Archer Cemetery. Samuel was born August 31, 1806 in Montgomery County, Kentucky and died January 21, 1877 in Gibson County. According to some sources Jane was born August 31, 1805 in Kentucky. She died September 18, 1859 in Gibson County. The older inscription on the lower part of the stone appears to read , "Jane Wife of Samuel Whitsitt Died Sept. 18, 1859 Aged 54? Yrs. 9 Ms. 24 Days", which would make her birthdate Dec. 25, 1804(?)

John S. Whitsitt, son of Samuel and Jane Finney Whitsitt, was born July 3, 1836 in Princeton, Gibson County and died December 12, 1895 in Princeton. He married Annie E. Archer in 1865. She was born February 25, 1844 and died August 14, 1880. Ethel P. Whitsitt was their daughter, one of at least three children who died before reaching the of two.
